What Is SEO?

What is SEO? I have been asked this a thousand times, and the answer is surprisingly hard to answer. Here is my best shot.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website in search engines. As the internet has evolved I also find it increasingly valuable to put a SEO in the context of helping website owners improve user experience. A clean well structured uncluttered website makes it easier for visitors to find what they came to your website for, and also increases the likelihood search engines will spider the site more effectively.

Website owners today tend to get wrapped up in what their site looks like, and often bloat the page with unnecessary distractions such as to many bloated images, over linking, and gadgets that seem neat to them but they lose the visitor in the process. SEO is more than just ranking a site it is helping website owners understand being on the 1st page of Google means nothing if you can't convert or make a sale.

SEO is developing unique content, attracting quality links, eliminating conical urls, and developing good titles and descriptions for your website pages. SEO is not something done and forgotten it has to be an ongoing work that never quits.

SEO can be considered the life of a website, and should be a part of your website development.

The really good part about SEO is once your site has been set up correctly with the help of an experienced SEO specialist, the owner can learn the basic components of ranking a website and usually be able to take over the website. 

My desire is to do just that and allow the website owner to assume the responsibilities of continuing the work needed to allow their site the possibility to rank in the organic listings.
